The Ohana Health and Wellbeing family believe that through breath and mindful movement we can gain a greater understanding of ourselves. We can come to a place of acceptance and letting go.
By becoming aware of our subtle bodies; the breath body, the mind body, the emotional body and the physical body we can gently observe whether we are in a state of ‘disconnect’. We can then begin to create the ‘reconnect’.
The Ohana Studio is a safe space for you to shift from ‘doing’ to simply ‘being’, soothing not only your subtle bodies but also allowing you to switch from a state of flight or fight, soothing your nervous system.
Yoga Class Description
Yang Yin Yoga
Start your week off with a fusion of two styles of yoga in one practice to balance yin and yang through movement and stillness. The class will begin with yin poses held longer to stretch the connective tissues helping you to relax into the deepest layers of your body. The second half of the class moves into a warming and heart-opening yang practice encouraging the flow of prana or energy. You will be sure to leave feeling calm, peaceful and balanced after this healing practice.
Your instructor, Guy Gibson’s approach to yoga is heavily informed by his experience as an Ex-Army physical training instructor and heavy mining equipment mechanic. He is a qualified fitness instructor with certifications in multiple yoga disciplines.
He firmly believes you should be challenged every time you come to the mat, either as a result of a hard-core Power Yoga session or the challenge of sitting with your monkey mind. “The biggest challenge we face is taking what we learn on the mat and applying it to our everyday lives.”
Guy has been practicing yoga for 10 years and moved into teaching about two years ago. His classes draw on the influence of martial arts and ancient warrior strength and conditioning practices such as clubs and maces to create a uniquely warrior flavoured yoga blend.
Be guided you through a series of yoga poses to increase energy flow, calm the mind and open the heart. You will learn how to combine movement with breath in order to strengthen the body and calm the mind. This class will consist of a combination of flowing (Vinyasa) and static (Hatha) yoga poses, sequences and breathing techniques. There is attention to alignment and moving with mindful awareness. It is a truly uplifting experience suitable for all levels.
Monday Night Meditation
Come together with like minded people and join a peaceful guided meditation with North Lakes’ favourite meditation teacher, Kirsty O’Callaghan.
Me Time Yoga
Complete your afternoon with an invigorating yoga session before school pick up. This class will allow you to find your flow, connecting to your body, while entering periods of stillness. Throughout the session you will be challenged to hold poses to build strength and warmth throughout your body. This class will suit both beginners and regular yogis as there is always room to exit or deepen into your practice.
A slow grounding practice which focuses on working the deep connective tissues and joints of the body to improve well-being. The class will consist of long-held, passive floor poses that mainly work the lower part of the body – the hips, pelvis and lower spine. You will explore breathing techniques to encourage the flow of energy in the body and bring about deep relaxation with meditation practices. This class will slow you down and help you unwind.
Flow into your weekend with an all levels yoga practice designed to awaken and stretch the body. This is your chance to breathe deep, build awareness and make connections. You will mindfully transition through a range of poses to wake up and energise your body. This class offers the perfect combination of strengthening and lengthening to bring about balance and harmony so you can shine bright into your weekend. Yoga props and pose modifications are provided to make this class accessible for all.
Indulge yourself and retreat into this combination of Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga adapted for pregnancy.
