There is no need to be worried stepping into the chiropractor’s office.

We get it, it can be nerve wracking to see a chiropractor for the first time. What to expect when you see a chiropractor? This is what happens when you have an initial consultation with one of Ohana’s chiropractic team.

On arrival

Upon arrival to the beautiful Ohana Health and Wellbeing clinic in North Lakes, you will be greeted by our front desk welcoming team. We will have you complete initial paperwork which will cover basic personal details, your presenting complaint and health history.

In the chiropractor’s office

Once you are settled in with one of our chiropractors, they will go through this paper work with you. They will take a full history and ask lots of questions about your health, your previous injuries or traumas, this will assist us in making our diagnosis.

Your chiropractor will then take you through a thorough examination. This will consist of neurological evaluation, muscle test, range of motion and palpation. Your examination will be adapted for any age or pain presentation.

Depending on what your chiropractor has identified through your history and examination, they may choose to refer you on for some x-rays or scans.

After your chiropractor has evaluated all of this information, they will discuss their findings with you and what they believe the best treatment would be. This may include referring you to another practitioner within our clinic or in the local community if they do not believe chiropractic is the right treatment for you. They will discuss what the treatment will involve and how it will feel. The chiropractor will also go through an informed consent for treatment form, they will discuss any risk that may be associated with the treatment. We encourage you to ask any questions or voice any concerns!

Unless your chiropractor identifies any red flags or contraindications for care, you will likely be adjusted on your first visit. The adjustment will change depending on your presentation, age and the patient, however we do favour low force adjusting techniques. Your chiropractor will explain what they are doing at all times of the adjustment, again we encourage questions at any stage of your consultation.

Your initial consultation will generally last for 45 minuets. At your second visit, we will present a report of findings from your examination. This will include a diagnosis, management plan and schedule of appointments. It may also include some homework or excises for you to do at home and will include tips on how you can manage your condition at home.
